Tamlin 6x8 “D” Log Manufacture
The most popular milled log today is the 6x8 “D” profile. While the exterior walls of the house resemble full rounded logs, the interior walls are flat, a feature most homeowners prefer.
A significant benefit is the ability to install matching horizontal flat (1x8 V-joint) paneling to any interior frame walls to match the flat solid log walls.
Other advantages of the “D” log include the elimination of typical dust buildup between logs, and the convenience of a flat surface for trouble-free picture hanging. Finishing other interior walls and cabinets to the flat log walls is definitely easier.

All our logs are carefully graded and precision milled into double tongue-and-groove, 6x8 "D" shaped profiles, with interlocking corners. Each log is precut, prenotched, predrilled for electrical holes, through bolts, and lag bolts.
Receptacles and switch boxes are routered and logs are custom milled with a built-in drip edge that helps shed water away from the walls. Each log is milled in the same precise manner so you have a perfect fit with even horizontal lines every time. And where logs join together on longer wall lengths, a manufactured dove-tail joint (known for its strength) is used.

Built-in Drip Edge

For quick and easy log assembly, all logs are identified with labels and each house package comes with log wall drawings and a detailed log construction manual. Lifting logs into place doesn’t require a crane, making this system perfect for those who want to do it themselves.

Quality of Logs
Whether your preference is spruce, douglas fir, or western red cedar, the quality of our wood gives us a distinct advantage over other manufactured logs.
Tamlin’s strategic location on the west coast of Canada ensures our logs are harvested from the highest quality softwood areas in the world. Precision milled logs are specially selected for their tight knot and appearance grades. To maintain the highest level of stability, douglas fir and spruce logs are kiln dried; western red cedar is air dried. This minimizes settling problems after construction, and allows for the immediate staining and sealing of logs as soon as the structure is assembled.
…The quality of the manufactured logs and ease of assembly was superb…The logs were easily handled by two people. — Colin Hendricks (builder)

- For the best long term performance, our spruce and douglas fir logs are kiln dried and western red cedar air dried. Reducing the high moisture content substantially decreases twisting, warping, bad checking or splitting, and significant settling of logs, typical in most log homes. Tamlin’s seasoning procedure ensures a superior log wall system that is much more stable and requires only minimal maintenance.
- Beyond a clear coat of stain on your beautifully smooth inside log walls, there is no further finishing or drywalling required; a significant cost savings in construction.
- All our clients appreciate the natural environment their log home provides. Anyone who has worked around drywall dust, heavily glued products, or oily paints will greatly appreciate building with our solid wood milled log package.
- For longer wall lengths, we use precision notching and precut dove-tail joinery. This high-tech approach to log manufacture, provides a definite accuracy advantage.
- Factory predrilled electrical holes and preroutered electrical boxes allow for quick and simple electrical installation. Predrilled through bolt holes and lag bolt holes significantly speed up construction and save money. Tamlin can also help you with your electrical plan.
- All door and window openings in log walls are precut at the factory. We use a simple installation system providing all the components you need.
- For the best in weatherproofing and defense against the elements, we provide a tongue-and-groove milled log with lag bolts, caulking, and waterproof gaskets. To satisfy the most discerning log finisher, we supply a touch-up kit for complete water protection on exterior logs and can recommend a selection of proven, environmentally friendly stains for your final coat of protection.
- Featured in Tamlin designs are the architectural use of local softwoods such as western red cedar, douglas fir, pine/spruce, hemlock, and alder, to name just a few.
